Regional Municipality of Waterloo: Revitalizing Regionally-owned Community Housing Properties

The Region of Waterloo retained a Project Team led by TWC to investigate the potential for intensification and/or redevelopment at selected Region-owned housing sites managed by Waterloo Regional Housing (WRH).

The study identified six out of 62 sites which can be redeveloped over a seven year period and help the Region achieve its priority goals of replacing housing stock that is no longer cost effective to repair, creating cost efficiencies in management and operating costs, increasing the number of housing units, addressing quality of life issues in WRH communities and supporting the transit and re-urbanization goals of the Region.

City Of Peterborough Rent Supplement Initiative

The City of Peterborough is committed to increasing the number of residents living in housing which is affordable to them.  The City, as Municipal Service Manager, hired TWC to write a report on methods and options for moving forward with a rent supplement initiative.

The report included a historic review of Peterborough’s past delivery and administration of rent supplement initiatives, an examination of other municipal delivery approaches, eligibility criteria focusing on eviction prevention and a recommended fiscal framework for the program.
